Background + Biography

Lauren Abric, LPC, ATR, BCPC, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Connecticut, as well as a Board Certified Professional Counselor (BCPC) within the American Psychotherapy Association (APA) and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) with the American Art Therapy Association (AATA). As of May 2012, she is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Ms. Abric has a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology with a specialization in Mental Health, with a minor in Art from Southern CT State University in New Haven, CT and a Graduate Degree in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College’s Master of Arts in Art Therapy Program (MAAT) in New Haven, CT. 

Ms. Abric has experience with a wide variety of agencies and people. She has a strong history working with children on the autism spectrum and their families, within schools as well as therapeutic settings. She has experience working within psychiatric hospitals with adolescents and adults, has provided therapy services within elementary and middle schools, as well outpatient therapy clinics. In 2007, she started the Art Therapy Program at The Village for Families and Children in Hartford, CT. servicing children, adolescents and families in the Hartford area. She currently clinically supervises clinicians and social workers within an outpatient behavioral health clinic. Ms. Abric has also spent time within CT Hospice working with patients and their families around end of life issues. She enjoys photography as well as painting in her studio. Her art work has been featured at the New Britain Museum of American Art, Yale University, The Childrens Center in New Haven CT, Albertus Magnus College, The Ct. Art Therapy Association, Hospice, and the CT State Capitol.

Philosophy: Ms. Abric believes that within therapy, the therapeutic process and relationship assists at fostering change within each individual's life. The therapeutic environment must be safe, caring and supportive and trust must be established in order to heal, and progress forward.

Within the therapeutic setting, Ms. Abric maintains confidentiality, proceeds at each individuals pace, provides an empathetic, nurturing and accepting environment, establishes a healthy relationship, and always welcomes client feedback.

Ms. Abric is a Professional Member of The American Art Therapy Association the NBCC and the American Psychotherapy Association.

An EMDR Certified Therapist has engaged in at least 20 hours of consultation with an EMDR Consultant for EMDR and has practiced their skills with at least 25 different clients in at least 50 EMDR sessions. An EMDR Certified Therapist has voluntarily met standards of consultation, clinical practice, and continuing education to provide EMDR therapy. An EMDR Certified Therapist is committed to fulfill ethical standards and is engaged in continuing education. To maintain this certification, a therapist must continue to satisfy the EMDRIA requirement including completion of continuing education requirements and adherence to ethical standards.
